Altering your pet is one of the best things you can do for your pet and the community. Female cats and dogs can suffer from infections in the reproductive system that can be fatal. Males can have prostate problems similar to those that humans have. Every year hundreds of unwanted dogs and cats pass through the animal shelters of Kern County. Why shouldn't I feed my pet grocery store foods?
Grocery store pet foods are manufactured from the lowest price, lowest quality components and are not designed to meet special needs. Grocery store pet food components may change from batch to batch, and there's the high likelihood that these changes will cause symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea in your pet. With respect to cats specifically, it's critical that diet be controlled for certain minerals, which can cause the urethra to obstruct and threaten the life of your cat. Feeding your pet a high-quality diet manufactured by a company that produces a complete line of therapeutic, prescription diets, ensures that the ingredients are standardized from batch to batch. In addition as your pet ages and potentially requires specific dietary therapy, you will be able to transition them into the appropriate diet while maintaining consistency.

How do I trim my cat's claws?
To trim your cat's claws, press its paw gently so the whole length of each claw is exposed. Using a quality nail trimmer designed for use on cats carefully cut just the tip of the nail avoiding the quick (the pink area). If you are unsure of where the quick is, hold your cats paw up to the light. You will be able to see the portion of the nail that you can safely clip without nicking the quick. If you have any questions whatsoever about trimming your cat's claws, please ask us to show you how.
